Honour Ranch Site Distribution Project – Ashcroft, BC

Powering a Purpose: Supporting Those Who Serve

Located on 120 acres of tranquil landscape in Ashcroft, BC, Honour Ranch is a retreat for Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, and First Responders seeking recovery from operational stress injuries. In 2022, O’Brien Bros joined a volunteer-driven effort to connect this essential facility to the BC Hydro grid—helping provide stable, long-term power to support those who have served.

Overview

Since its inauguration in 2019, Honour Ranch had operated solely on generator power. The project’s goal was to connect the property to the local BC Hydro distribution network—delivering a consistent energy supply, reducing maintenance, and minimizing the risk of freeze-related damage during harsh winters.

O’Brien Bros proudly contributed to this community-driven initiative, aligning with a coalition of contractors and suppliers under the coordination of Associated Electrical Services.

Design & Planning

While the primary design and coordination were led by Associated Electrical Services, O’Brien Bros was engaged early on to support the site construction phase. The team played a pivotal role in executing the physical groundwork that laid the foundation for the entire electrical system.

Construction

O’Brien Bros’ scope of work included:

• Excavation for utility poles, ground mats, anchors, and grounding systems
• Strategic distribution of 21 power poles across the rugged terrain
• Assistance with dressing and prepping poles prior to placement
• Standing and backfilling poles to ensure safe and secure installation

These tasks were essential to preparing the site for the line crews to install and connect the overhead electrical systems.

Outcome

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of all teams involved—including the essential on-the-ground support from O’Brien Bros—the Honour Ranch now benefits from a reliable and safe connection to the BC Hydro power grid. This upgrade significantly reduces operational costs and ensures year-round energy stability for the Ranch and its residents.
